February Reading Wrap Up

Unfortunately, this month didn't sit as well with me as January.  I didn't feel like I flew through anything or had that feeling of "can't wait to get home and read my book".  It's a season! I still did a great amount of reading and covered multiple genres....here are the five I got through this month.

BREATHLESS

Amy McCulloch
352 pages
3.5 stars

Breathless follows Cecily Wong, a journalist, on a mountaineering adventure to the top of Manaslu.  She is covering the world famous, Charles McVeigh, as he finished his recording breaking climb to complete the eight highest peaks in the world.  Everything is not how it should be, and things are getting dangerous.  This mystery/thriller will have you on your toes and out of breath!

NO TIME LIKE THE PAST (CHRONICLES OF ST MARY'S #5)

Jodi Taylor
340 pages
4 stars

St. Mary's is a university in modern time that travels to the past to study events.  The quirkiness, lovability of the characters, and grand adventures continued in the fifth installment of this series.  The Chronicles of St Mary's is the perfect series to stick between more serious and difficult books as you read throughout the year, but be careful....you will get hooked!

JACQUELINE IN PARIS

Ann Mah
345 pages
3 stars

Before Jackie Kennedy was first lady, she was Jackie Bouvier, and her love of French culture was unmatched.  She studied in France for a year in 1949 and learned a great deal about the world and the politics at the time.  While her family's expectations and her love life weigh on her greatly, the weight of devastation in post-Occupation France opens her eyes to new experiences and views.

THE LOVE SONGS OF W.E.B. DUBOIS

Honorée Fanonne Jeffers
Pgs 256-816
4.5 stars

A sweeping historical fiction epic that is a must read.  Covering generations from pre-colonial America to present day, Jeffers examines prejudice, oppression, and the perseverance of minorities in America.

THE LIGHTNING THIEF (PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS #1)

Rick Riordan
375 pages
4 stars

The first book of this mega popular middle grade series was a first for me! Percy Jackson is not who he thinks he is, and is soon able to trace his roots back to Greek mythology.  Full of heart, adventure, and humor, The Lightning Thief is a great light read and I can't wait to continue this series.
